Pat Haugen stays with Mainz Athletics

Posted on November 15, 2011November 15, 2011 by philipp

24-year-old American right-handed pitcher Pat Haugen will return to the Mainz Athletics and the German Baseball-Bundesliga in 2012 the club announced on Monday evening. He went 5-2 with an ERA of 1.65 in ten starts this year. He struck out 100 batters in 71 innings, while walking 30. Opponents batted just .146 against him. An injury sidelined him in June, but he returned in time to lead the A’s into the playoffs. He still led the league in strikeouts and finished second behind Mike Bolsenbroek of the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg in ERA and the best pitcher voting in the southern division. Haugen is pitching in Mainz since the middle of the 2010 season. He is spending the winter playing in South Africa, but will return in time for next year’s campaign.
