The fourth day of the 13th World Junior AAA Baseball Championship in Edmonton, Canada was another tough day for the European teams. The Czech Republic, Russia and the Netherlands lost by a combined score of 3-47, each playing against one if the favorite countries in the tournament.
In the morning, the Czech team got shut out by Taiwan 10-0. The Asians opened the game with a five-run first and Tsung-Chien Lin and Po-Ju Lin combined in a three-hitter to shut down the Czech offense. Jonas Jurdzin took the loss, after giving up eight runs (6 ER) in five innings. He had some control problems walking seven.
Afterwards Russia got a lesson from the United States, getting crushed 25-0. The Americans scored in every of the seven frames, highlighted by a 12-run fourth. Each of the four Russian pitchers gave up at least five earned runs with Maxim Shevchenko taking the loss. The offense managed two hits against Cecil Tanner and Jeff Malm, who combined for a two-hitter.
In the evening the Netherlands lost 3-12 against the defending champion Korea. Starter Jeroem De Haas got behind early, giving up six runs in the first to take the loss, going 3 2/3 innings. Nick Urbams, Jan Baldee and Roland Henrique scored the three runs for the Dutch.
