After five years at the helm, Georg Bull resigns as head coach of the Mannheim Tornados. He will focus solely on his coaching job with the German Baseball Academy (Deutsche Baseball Akademie, DBA) next season. Two coaching jobs at the same time became more difficult to handle with success for both sides. He helped the Tornados finding a successor, who already signed a contract and will be announced in the coming weeks.
In five years with the Tornados Bull reached the German finals twice and helped several talented players into the German Baseball-Bundesliga. Right now five German Junior National Team players are playing in Mannheim. Talking to Mister-Baseball.com he mentioned that he had a fun time coaching in his hometown. The quality of play in the league got better each year. He hopes to intensify his work with the DBA in the future.
The 2011 season was disappointing for the Tornados, which missed the playoffs due to an even 12-12 record, finishing the year with a fifth place in the southern division. Mannheim had lost to the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg in 2008 and to the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe in 2009; both times in five games.
