FLYERS DOMINATE UNDERMANNED BARRACUDAS…15-5 AND 8-0!
The Barracudas (9-6) were no match for the first place Flyers (12-1) Saturday in Therwil. The ‘Cudas, travelling without their top three hitters, (JT Schroeder, Nderim Coma, and Marc Schneider), had no real chance. Schroeder and Coma are also two of the team’s top arms on the mound. The Flyers, playing without playing/coach John Alexander, still had too much firepower. The star of the day was Chris Blackbee…he accounted for seven RBIs in the game one, with a three-run homer! In game two he topped that performance, taking a no-hitter into the last inning before Farid Bekkali ended his bid with a single. Another story line in game one is the health of Jeff Mottl, who was knocked out of the game by a Reto Siegel line drive. The ball hit Mottl below the elbow on his pitching arm. Along with solid pitching in game two, the Flyers offense picked up where it left off in game one, highlighted by Dan Eichenbergers’ fifth homerun of the season. The wins for the Flyers further show that they are the team to beat at this point in the season. The Barracudas find themselves moving backwards toward fourth place, just 1 1/2 games ahead of the Challengers and Indians.
CHALLENGERS SEND COACH OFF WITH TWO MUCH NEEDED WINS AGAINST FROGS!
The Challengers reached .500 and gave head coach Andy Fleischacker two farewell victories on Sunday, July 20 at Sissach (4-12). Thomas Burger allowed two runs in seven effective innings and Harry Bregy worked two scoreless innings for his first save of the season, as the Challengers held on for a 4-2 victory over the Sissach Frogs in Game one. And it was all Challengers in Game two, as James Sanders, Willy Schaub and Andy Fleischacker in his last outing for the C’s combined for a shutout, as the C’s cruised to an 8-0 win. Fleischacker signed with the Lake Erie College and will return to the U.S. next week. The C’s improved their record to 7-7 and are now in a tie for fourth place with the Lausanne Indians.
WIL DEVILS TAKE TWO FROM STRUGGLING EAGLES, MOVE OUT OF THE CELLAR. FIRST YEAR TEAM FINDS THEMSELVES IN 6TH PLACE 5-11. EAGLES NOW HOLD WORST RECORD IN THE LEAGUE AT 3-11.
THE BERN CARDINALS 10-2 AND LAUSANNE INDIANS 7-7 HAD THE WEEKEND OFF.
