Therwil Flyers – Embrach Mustangs 2-1

Game one of the double header between the Therwil Flyers and the Embrach Mustangs was an exciting battle all the way to the final out. The match up turned out to be a pitching duel between 3 Flyers pitchers and the Mustangs Roger Savoldelli. The Flyers were the first team able to score. In the second inning there were back to back doubles by Chris Blackbee and Taka Oshima which plated one run. Following his double, Taka Oshima quickly stole third base, but unfortunately was tagged out at home plate on a botched squeeze play.
The Flyers scored again in the third inning, after Adrian Kaufmann led off the inning with a single and then was able to score on a sacrifice fly. The Mustangs scored their first run in the top of the fourth inning after a leadoff double by Josh Crouse, who quickly stole third and then came home to score on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Wong. The rest of the story for this game was pitching and defense. Flyers starting pitcher, Hide Oshima, was able to work through five innings, only giving up one run. He kept the hitters off balance all day. Coming in to pitch the next three innings, was Stefan Koller. He worked his way out of a seventh inning jam to complete his day of scoreless pitching.
On the other side of the diamond, Roger Savoldelli kept the Flyers hitters off the board for the rest of the game. They battled, but were unable to push any more runs across. With a one run lead in the ninth inning, closer Adrian Kaufmann came in the game and got one quick out. After the first out was made, he was able to wiggle out of a jam with some help by center fielder Reto Siegel, who threw out the potential tying run at third base. After two walks and two base hits, Kaufmann was able to induce a game ending soft liner to short stop Taka Oshima. Hitting standouts for the Flyers were Taka Oshima and Adrian Kaufmann who both finished the game going 2-3. Final score was 2-1 in favor of the Flyers.
Game two of the double header was postponed due to rain.
