World Port Tournament: Recap Day 7, June 29

Posted on June 29, 2011 by philipp

Cuba – Curacao 1-0

Curacao 000 000 000 0 2 0
Cuba 000 000 10X 1 8 1

It wasn’t pretty, but it is a win. Cuba got a little bit payback for the loss against Curacao last Friday, shutting out the same opponent 1-0 on Wednesday at the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam. A sac fly by Yordanis Samon in the bottom of the seventh was the difference in the game. On the mound Dalier Honajosa (W) showed off his talent, allowing just one hit and two walks in 7 1/3 scoreless innings. Yadier Pedroso allowed another hit in the ninth to complete the two-hitter. Raydel Isabella (L) issued one run on eight hits in eight innings.

Netherlands – Taiwan 4-2

Taiwan 000 001 001 2 11 1
Netherlands 001 300 00X 4 7 2

The Netherlands handed Taiwan its first loss of the tournament, defeating the Asian surprise by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday. A RBI fielder’s choice by Roeland Henrique Jr. in the third and three runs on RBI singles by Shaldimar Daantji and Michael Duursma plus an error in the fourth got the Dutch team a 4-0 lead. Taiwan countered with a sac fly by Chih Pei Huang in the sixth and a RBI single by Han Lin in the ninth. Diegomar Markwell (W) issued six hits, a run and two walks in six innings. Wei Chung Wang (L) allowed four hits, four runs (3 ER) and four bb in 3 1/3 innings.
