Posted on June 24, 2008 by philipp

Saarlouis Hornets – Haar Disciples 7-6, 9-4

The hopes for a playoff participation for the DISCIPLES hit a bumper. They got swept in the doubleheader in SAARLOUIS and are now three games out of fourth. The HORNETS are back in the mix, especially with matchups against the TORNADOS and ATHLETICS left.

The first match was decided in the sixth period. The game was tied 3-3 at the start of the frame. HAAR scored three runs on RBI singles by Gregor Klinc and Adalberto Paulino in addition to an error by shortstop Seth Nowakoswki. However the HORNETS answered right away. They put four runs on the board and took a 7-6 lead, which held till the end. Chris Teusch delivered the decisive hit with a single, driving in Javier Perez and Torsten Krapf. Ales Keprta (W 7-5) pitched 7 2/3 innings, giving up 13 hits, six runs (4 ER) and a walk, while striking out three. Dirk Fries (L 5-4) allowed ten hits, seven runs (5 ER) and a bb in 5 1/3 innings.

SAARLOUIS used a six-run third to win 9-4 in game two of the twin bill. Max Matlacki, Seth Nowakoswki and Javier Perez each scored twice. The DISCIPLES batted around in the ninth, scoring four runs, but left the bases loaded to end the rally. Sam Jew (W 2-0), who had closed out game one for the save, started for the HORNETS in the second match. He threw eight innings, allowing just five hits and two walks, while striking out four. Esequier Pie (L 1-1) pitched six innings for HAAR. He gave up eight hits, nine unearned runs and four bb. He struck out five.

Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Gauting Indians 4-3, 7-3

The HEIDEKOEPFE had to work hard to secure both wins of the doubleheader against the INDIANS. They had to overcome deficits in both parts and now are tied with REGENSBURG in the win column of the southern conference standings.

HEIDENHEIM rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth in game one to beat GAUTING 4-3. They had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the same period on a three-run shot by Johannes Jung. However Johannes Schaeffler tied it with a RBI triple and scored the winning run on a groundout to second by David Fuesser. Peter Dankerl (W 8-1) pitched eight innings, allowing seven hits, three runs and two walks, while striking out six. Dominik Hartinger (L 0-9) had one of his better performances of the year. He gave up ten hits, four runs and three bb in a complete game loss.

The HEIDEKOEPFE scored six runs in the seventh and eight period of the second match to get a 7-3 win. Simon Guehring was two-for-four with two runs scored and a RBI. Robert Gruber and Hagen Raetz each drove in two. The INDIANS had taken a 3-1 lead in the sixth on a bases loaded walk by Johannes Jung and a two-run single by Chris Howard. Mike Hartley got the start for HEIDENHEIM. He allowed one hit in four scoreless innings, striking out two. Markus Winkler (W 7-1) relieved him and received the win. Matt Fuller (L 6-2) gave up ten hits, five runs (4 ER) and six bb in seven innings. It was just his second loss of the season.

Neuenburg Atomics – Mannheim Tornados 9-8, 0-12

After winning one of two games against HEIDENHEIM, the ATOMICS celebrated the second surprise victory in about a week. They stunned the TORNADOS in game one of the doubleheader, but got crushed in the second.

NEUENBURG overcame a 0-4 deficit in the third to beat MANNHEIM 9-8 in game one. They built up a 9-4 lead till the end of the fifth and stopped a TORNADOS rally right in time. Andreas Gerth pitched the complete game for his third win of the season. The guest team got revenge in the second match. Eddie Aucoin dominated like usual and won the duel against Alex Aucoin easily. The offense provided him with a fast 4-0 lead after four frames and continued to score to a final 12-0 pounding.
