Preview: Opening Day in Italian Baseball League

Posted on April 14, 2011 by philipp

This Thursday marks Opening Day in the Italian Baseball League. Defending champion Cariparma Parma takes on Unipol Bologna in the opening match at 8.30pm CET, which will be shown live at RAI Sport 2. It will feature the pitching matchup between Jesus Silva (PAR) and Jesus Matos (BOL).

The other six teams in the IBL will take the field, starting on Friday. Novara Baseball United, which replaced the Catania Warriors, will face Montepaschi Grosseto. Telemarket Rimini plays against the North East Knights. And T&A San Marino squares off with Danesi Nettuno.

The FIBS did change the starting times for the evening games, moving first pitch up to 8pm, respective 7.30pm. It is going to be interesting if this will have an effect at the attendance numbers during the regular season.
