Halcones de Vigo – CB Sant Boi 0-2, 3-18
CB Sant Boi extended its winning streak in the Spanish Division de Honor to four games with a sweep over Halcones de Vigo. On Saturday Eliezer Garcia (W 4-1) won the pitcher’s duel against Jose Navas (L 2-5) and led Sant Boi to a 2-0 shutout. The former minor leaguer struck out twelve in eight scoreless two-hit innings walking one. Navas issued five hits, two runs (1 ER) and five bb in a complete game. CB scored both runs in the fifth.
In game two the final score indicates a rout, but Sant Boi only blew things wide open in an 18-3 victory with twelve runs in the last two frames. William Domero went deep. Marc Carrillo drove in four. Daniel Sanchez had four hits. Rafael Rivas crossed the plate four times. Lowin Sacramento (W 5-2) struck out eleven in seven strong innings for the win. He gave up two unearned runs on four hits and a walk. Julio Iglesias (L 0-2) issued seven hits, six runs and five bb in 5 1/3 innings.
CD Pamplona – Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz 0-7, 7-5
It was one of the biggest surprises of the 2011 season in Spanish baseball so far. CD Pamplona split in their doubleheader with the Tenerife Marlins this weekend. In game one the world was still on order, as Puerto Cruz celebrated a 7-0 shutout behind a gem of Yoel Hernandez (W 4-2) who gave up only six hits and three walks in eight scoreless innings, while striking out eight. Leslie Nacar closed it out. The Marlins had taken a fast 2-0 lead in the opening period and blew things wide open with five runs in the eighth. Alexis Fumero (L 1-6) issued nine hits, two runs (1 ER) and three bb in seven innings.
In the second match however Pamplona had the better outing. They took a 7-0 lead after five innings thanks to rallies in the fourth and fifth. Tenerife tried to come back, but only was able to cut the deficit to two runs losing 5-7 in the end. Alberto Casanellas (W 2-3) gave up three hits, three runs (2 ER) and three bb in 5 1/3 innings for the win. Eneko Del Burgo (S 2) preserved the lead in the remaining 3 2/3 frames. Miguel Rizo (L 3-2) surrendered ten hits, seven runs and three walks in four innings for the loss. Gabriel Guerrero (PAM) went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
FC Barcelona – Sevilla Red Sox 15-0 (6), 15-0 (6)
The FC Barcelona solidified first place in the standings with a pair of 15-0 shutouts over the Sevilla Red Sox. In the first one they sealed the deal with a big twelve-run rally in the fourth. Pau Sancho led the way by going 4-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and three RBI. Nine Barca players crossed the plate at least once. On the mound Jason Friedman (W 2-0) and Jonathan Garcia held Sevilla to two hits and a walk in six scoreless innings. Diego Torres (L 0-3) took the loss after 3 2/3 frames, being charged with nine hits, nine runs and two bb.
In the second game Barcelona hadn’t one big inning, but scored continually in each frame of the 15-0 rout. Emmanuel Febles hit a three-run homerun. Oscar Angulo scored four times. Jesus Golindano drove in three with the triple. Jorge Balboa (W 4-0) and Oscar Jimenez combined for a one-hitter. Emili Lopez (L 0-5) surrendered eight hits, ten runs (6 ER) and three walks in four innings.
Astros Valencia – Baseball Navarra 2-1 (11), 5-8
The Astros Valencia couldn’t keep up with the FC Barcelona in the standings, as they settled for the split against Baseball Navarra this weekend. In game one the Astros needed an eleventh-inning run to beat Navarra 2-1. In the second match the guests from Pamplona avoided the sweep with an 8-5 win, ending a five-game losing streak.
CB Viladecans – San Inazio Bilbao 8-3, 4-2
The record champion in Spain has moved into the top five of the standings and could close the gap towards the top-ranked teams with wins in their make-up games against the Sevilla Red Sox. CB Viladecans swept their two-game series versus San Inazio Bilbao. In game one Carlos Luis Amaro (W 2-2) allowed eight hits, three runs (2 ER) and three walks in a complete game to lead CB to an 8.3 victory. He struck out nine. Six runs in the bottom of the eighth sealed the win. Aderly Grullon hit a solo homerun. Rainny Peguero scored twice and drove in two. Jose Romero struck out ten in seven innings for Bilbao. Fidel Mane took the loss in relief.
In the second match Viladecans took a 4-0 lead through five innings en route to a 4-2 win. Rainny Peguero moved into the leadoff spot for this game and went 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI. Pol Llopis (W 2-2) issued just six hits and two walks in six scoreless innings. Alberto Magallon (L 2-4) surrendered four unearned runs on nine hits and four bb in 7 1/3 innings. Kelvin Marianucci had three hits for San Inazio.
