The 28-year-old left-handed pitcher Trevor Caughey is on the roster of the Spanish Division de Honor club Astros Valencia. The Californian picked up the win last Sunday in game one against Halcones de Vigo, allowing just one hit in two scoreless innings, while striking out three. He had replaced Bobby Carrington in the eighth and also served as designed hitter in both games.
Caughey was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 9th round of the 2002 MLB Amateur Draft. He began his professional career in the same summer and moved up to High-A by 2004. After his release in 2006 he joined the independent league circuit. In 2010 he came to Europe, pitching for Technika Brno in the Czech Extraleague. He went 9-2 with an ERA of 1.87 and 106 strikeouts (23 walks) in 106 innings.
During the winter Caughey played in the Australian Baseball League, winning the championship with Perth Heat. The southpaw issued four hits, an unearned run and three bb in seven innings down under. The Astros seem to have made the next step during the offseason and look like one of the favorites in the Division de Honor right now. They are 5-1 after three weeks, right in the middle of the pack chasing defending champion CB Sant Boi.
