2010 in Review – German Baseball-Bundesliga – Pulheim Gophers

We are underway with our review series of the European Baseball season 2010. We already looked at the Italian Baseball League and the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Now at the plate: the German Baseball-Bundesliga.

Pulheim Gophers

2010 Record: 14-26 (including playdowns)
2010 Ranking: 7th place in northern division of Baseball-Bundesliga. After missing the playoffs on the last game day of the regular season, Pulheim needed until the last game of the playdowns to secure seventh place in the northern division. Afterwards they came back from a 0-1 deficit in the relegation/promotion series against the Berlin Challengers to stay in the Baseball-Bundesliga.
Runs Scored: 118 (6th)
Runs Allowed: 150 (5th)

Best Batter: Daniel Lamb-Hunt. The 26-year-old infielder from Auckland, New Zealand was named best batter in the northern division after going .411 (OBP .500/SLG .710) in his first season in German Baseball. He hit seven homeruns, three triples, five doubles, scored 29 runs and drove in 22. He led the league in homeruns (tied), triples, slugging percentage and OPS.

Most Home Runs: Daniel Lamb-Hunt 7 (tied for league lead)
Most RBI: Daniel Lamb-Hunt 22 (9th)
Most Runs Scored: Daniel Lamb-Hunt (tied for 4th)
Most Stolen Bases: Merlin Mendel (tied for 2nd)

Best Pitcher: Bryan Lee Roberts. The 24-year-old American had a 6-7 record with an ERA of 2.88 in 13 starts this season. He completed nine of them. He struck out 130 batters in 109 1/3 innings, while walking 46.

Best ERA Reliever: Sebastian Theobald 9.00 (Minimum 15 IP)
