Australian Baseball League starts into 4th Week on Thursday

Posted on November 24, 2010 by philipp

With a duel between Adelaide Bite (6-2) and Perth Heat (5-3) the Australian Baseball League enters week four of the 2010/2011 season. One day later the Melbourne Aces (2-6) will celebrate their home opener against Donald Lutz, Mariekson Gregorius and the Canberra Cavalry (2-6). Additionally the Sydney Blue Sox (6-2) are hosting the Brisbane Bandits (3-5).

It is obviously still way too early to take the stats seriously, but we are taking a first look. Pitching wise Sydney’s Chris Oxspring stands out with a 2-0 record and an ERA of 0.86 in three starts, striking out 22 batters in 21 innings, while walking just one. On offense his battery mate Alex Johnson is 9-for-19 with three homeruns, a double, four runs scored and nine RBI. Adelaide’s outfielder Quincy Latimore is 15-for-34 with four homeruns, a triple, three doubles, nine runs scored and twelve RBI.

From a European standpoint, German first baseman/outfielder Donald Lutz is 5-for-26 with three runs scored and four RBI, while Dutch shortstop Mariekson Gregorius is 6-for-31 with two runs and two RBI. Both are members of the Cincinnati Reds organization and are getting some extra playing time in Australia.
