North: Alligators crush Wanderers to stay undefeated

Posted on May 6, 2008May 6, 2008 by philipp

Dortmund Wanderers – Solingen Alligators 6-16, 1-9

SOL 020 720 023 16 15 2
DOW 202 000 020 6 10 1

SOL 000 231 210 9 12 4
DOW 000 000 010 1 5 7

Despite the fact that SOLINGEN played without their dominating 1-2 punch on the mound, Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez and Andre Hughes, the ALLIGATORS had no problems to stay undefeated. The  replacements Robin Drache and Jens Cornelsen pitched solid and the offense delivered in big style.

They produced 27 hits and 25 runs in the doubleheader and got help from eight errors (seven alone in game two) by the WANDERERS defense. Derek Malikian (picture) was the star of the day, reaching nine times, scoring five runs and driving in five. He hit a homerun, a double and four singles. Kai Gronauer, who probably had his last appearance in the Bundesliga before making the move to the Minor Leagues, scored five runs.

DORMTUND actually led the first game twice and also held a 0-0 over the first three innings in the second match. But nevertheless, they had no chance in the long run. Michael Kaber, who had already pitched on Thursday and Matt Kemp lost their starts.

Paderborn Untouchables – Neunkirchen Nightmares 20-0, 11-0

NKN 000 000 0 0 3 1
PAD 040 682 X 20 14 0

NKN 000 000 0 0 3 5
PAD 011 081 X 11 13 0

The UNTOUCHABLES had no problems to crush the NIGHTMARES easily on Sunday afternoon. They scored 31 runs in the doubleheader and the pitching staff of Eugen Heilmann, Daniel Hinz, Daniel Rahn and Dennis Stechmann gave up just six hits during the two shutouts. Bjoern Schonlau had five hits in eight at bats. Dominik Buder was four-for-five.

NEUNKIRCHEN had to play without Brett van Hooser, Sergej Heinrich and Pablo Reveand. Their pitchers Marc Wiefels and Mike Daniels were overmatched in both games.

HSV Stealers – Cologne Cardinals 1-10, 10-0

COC 111 014 200 10 12 3
HSV 000 010 000 1 4 6

COC 000 000 0 0 3 4
HSV 243 001 X 10 10 0

Two different games took place in Hamburg this weekend. The CARDINALS crushed the STEALERS in the first part of the doubleheader 10-1, scoring at will during the first seven frames. They also profited from six errors from the HSV. Ryo Kagami scored four runs. Pascal Raab received the win after a complete game. He gave up four hits, an unearned run and four walks. Marcel Brede took the loss.

The second part was quite the opposite. HAMBURG started strong and scored nine runs in the first three periods to take an early and commanding lead. In addition Thomas Haugh was cruising. He allowed just three hits in seven innings, while striking out six. Peter John Frates and Michael Fliedner each had three RBI. Kagami lasted just 1 2/3 innings for COLOGNE on the mound.

Hanover Regents – Bonn Capitals 5-8, 4-8
The CAPITALS secured fourth place in the standings further due to two victories in Hanover. The 17-year-old Marcel Penger pitched eight-plus innings in the first game for the win. Simon Falke and Marc Marsch hit homeruns for BONN. In the second part of the doubleheader, Martin Amparo allowed just a run in the first eight innings, before allowing three non-relevant runs in the end. The young CAPS team produced 25 hits and 16 runs in the doubleheader.

“The young replacements Robin Drache and Jens Cornelsen […]” Cornelsen is actually 24 years old, and therefor older then Andre Hughes.
