The Pan Am/Baseball World Cup Qualifier in Puerto Rico continued with six games on Sunday. Team USA and Cuba improved to 2-0 thanks to lopsided wins. The defending World Champion crushed Aruba 14-0 in seven innings thanks to homeruns by Mike Moustakas and Brian Barden. The pitching staff with starter Everett Teaford gave up just one hit in seven scoreless innings, striking out a combined 13. Cuba defeated Argentina 9-1. Alfredo Despaigne and Alexander Malleta (Grand Slam) hit homeruns. Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez struck out nine in seven three-hit innings for the win.
In the other games Panama also picked up its second win in as many games after a 5-3 victory over Colombia. Alberto Acosta pitched 6 1/3 strong innings, issuing just five hits, a run and three bb. The Dominican team got its first win of the tourney with a 3-2 nail-biter in 13 innings over Puerto Rico. In group B Venezuela beat Canada 5-3 with starting pitcher Jesus Yepez stifling the strong maple leafs offense. The Netherlands Antilles entered the Qualifier with a 4-8 loss to Nicaragua. Lorvin Louisa hit a three-run homerun for the Antillean squad, which only was able to score four times in the fourth.
