Swiss Semis: Therwil Flyers reach Finals

The semi-finals in the Swiss Nationalliga A ended this weekend with defending champion Therwil Flyers earning another trip into the championship series. They crushed the Zurich Challengers in game three and four to win the best-of-five set 3-1. They will face the Bern Cardinals in a rematch of last year’s affair. The Cards had beaten the Embrach Mustangs in five games to return to the Swiss Finals.

In game three between Therwil and Zurich on Saturday the Flyers took a fast 4-0 lead after four frames, added seven in the fifth and five in the sixth in a 16-3 blowout. Daniel Eichenberger, Stefan Koller and Reto Siegel went deep. Lukas Croton pitched seven solid innings for the win. Chris Palatinus took the loss.

In game four on Sunday Therwil used an eight-run rally in the third to turn a 0-4 deficit around in a 15-5 victory in Zurich. Daniel Eichenberger drove in three. Reto Siegel went 4-for-7. Chris Blackbee settled down after the
