Coppa Italia: Danesi Nettuno beats Montepaschi Grosseto to reach Finals

Posted on September 13, 2010 by philipp

Danesi Nettuno defeated Montepaschi Grosseto 2-1 a best-of-three series this weekend to reach the Coppa Italia Final. They will face Italian Baseball Series loser UGF Bologna in the best-of-three set on September 18 and 19. The winner will earn a spot in next year’s European Cup Tournament.

Grosseto won game one of the series against Nettuno 3-2 on Friday thanks to two runs in the eighth and ninth. Ivanon Coffie tied the contest 2-2 with a solo homerun before an error decided the outcome in the last frame. On Saturday Danesi had the better ending, as they prevailed 3-1 due to a two-run double by Renato Imperiali in the top of the ninth. Carlos Richetti threw eight scoreless innings for the win. In the decisive rubber match later that day Nettuno once again celebrated a 3-1 victory. Remigio Leal went the distance, allowing just five hits, a run and three walks, while striking out eleven. Renzo Sanna went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
