After already have clinched a final berth, the Czech Republic lost their last preliminary game 2-6 against the Ukraine on Saturday afternoon. Four runs in the last two frames broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the team of manager Oleg Boyko to the win. Maksym Symchyna, Olexiy Nezhiborets and Serthiy Shandurskyy picked up three hits each. Michal Ondracek scored both runs for the Czech team. Roman Maifat (W 1-1) issued eight hits, two unearned runs and a walk in a complete game victory. Lukas Vesely (CZE) gave up four hits, two runs (1 ER) and two bb in four innings. Daniel Vitek (L 0-1) took the loss.

Italy crushed Slovakia 15-3 to conclude the Under-21 European Championship in Brno, Czech Republic with just their second win of the tournament. The runner up from 2008 scored four runs in the first and three in the third to decide things early. Enrico Ciuffetelli went 4-for-4 with a homerun, a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Stefano Giannetti and Marco Sabbatani combined for six RBI. Matteo Pizziconi (ITA) got the start, allowing five hits, an unearned run and two bb in four innings. Tommaso Cherubini (W 1-0) inherited the win. Robert Kokavec (L 0-1) surrendered six hits, eight runs (6 ER) and four walks in four-plus innings.

France – Russia 1-13 (7)

Russia used an eleven-run third to defeat France 13-1 in seven innings on Saturday evening, earning a trip to the championship game and sending their opponents to third place. Five Russian players scored twice. Anton Evseev and Nikolay Lobanov combined for four RBI. Maxim Shevchenko (W 1-0) entered the game with two outs in the opening frame and earned the win by allowing just one hit and three walks in 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Joris Navarro (L 0-1) gave up three hits, six runs (2 ER) and three bb in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss.
