Cariparma needs one more win to clinch a spot in the Italian Baseball Series after celebrating a thrilling 5-4 win over T&A San Marino on Wednesday evening. Marco Yepez broke a 4-4 tie and decided the outcome with a solo homerun in the twelfth. Parma will have the two match points at home on Friday and Saturday.

After both teams had scored once in the third, Cariparma took the lead through RBIs by Stefano De Simoni, Davide Dallospedale and Alex Sambucci in the fifth and sixth. But San Marino came back. They erased the 1-4 deficit through three runs in the eighth, forcing extra innings. A sac fly by Carlos Duran tied the game.

Gustavo Martinez (PAR) allowed four hits, two runs (1 ER) and two bb in 7 1/3 innings, striking out eight. Henry Bonilla (SMA) surrendered four runs on eight hits and a walk in 5 1/3 frames. Marco Grifantini (W) picked up the win in relief. Jose Escalona (L) had kept T&A in the game with eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of relief, but his lone big mistake cost them the win.

Defending champion UGF Bologna is returning to the Italian Baseball Series after a 4-2 win over Telemarket Rimini on Wednesday. A three-run homerun by Juan Angrisano in the bottom of the fifth was the difference. The Pirates had taken a 2-1 lead on a RBI single by Daniel Gonzalez (3-4, 2 RBI) in the third, but couldn’t come back after Angrisano’s shot over the center field fence.

Jesus Matos (W) allowed six hits, two runs and three walks in 6 2/3 solid innings for the win. Victor Moreno (S) pitched in and out of trouble to close it out for the save. Jim Brower (L) took the loss after issuing seven hits, four runs and five bb in five innings. Rimini will finish in fourth place in the semi-final round after their sixth loss in the seventh game.
