Spain’s offense finally woke up and out-slugged Sweden en route to a 16-6 win in seven innings on Tuesday in Heidenheim. Four early runs in the first three innings put them ahead before Sweden cut the deficit to a run. But Spain was able to answer every comeback try of their opponents and won easily by ten-run rule in the end.
Daniel Martinez and William Domero combined for five hits, two homeruns and ten RBI. Seven players crossed the plate twice. For the team of Dennis Cook, Peter Johannessen homered and collected four RBI. His brother Bjoern went 3-for-3 with a RBI.
Remigio Leal (W 1-0) received the win, pitching in relief of Antonio Noguera, who allowed four hits, three runs (1 ER) and a walk in 3 2/3 innings. Kent Karlsson (L 0-1) issued eight hits, seven runs and three bb in 3 2/3 innings.
