Baseball Navarra upsets Marlins Puerto Cruz in 17 Innings

Baseball Navarra – Marlins Puerto Cruz 5-4 (17), 1-7

The newly formed team BASEBLL NAVARRA accomplished their first big win of the year. They won a thrilling 17-inning-affair in the first game of the doubleheader against the reigning Spanish champion. The MARLINS were up in front twice, but NAVARRA came back every time. Javier Zabalza scored the game-winning run in the 17th frame. Luis Villanueva had five hits, one run, one RBI and three stolen bases for the home team. Victor Martinez received the win, Renny Duarte the loss. German Arroyo (NAVARRA) and Leslie Nacar (MARLINS) were the starters.

The second match on Sunday went better for PUERTO CRUZ. They scored fast and often, winning by a score of 7-1.

CD Pamplona – FC Barcelona 0-3, 2-10

After a bye in week one, the FC BARCELONA entered the competition this weekend. Homer Baez led them to the first victory of the season with seven innings of one-hit-ball. He struck out two. Jesus Golindano and Emmanuel Febles had two hits each. Alexis Fumero started for PAMPLONA and took the loss. Patrice Birones of France also entered the game.

The second match was already over after the first inning. BARCELONA scored five runs to open the contest and chased opposing pitcher Daniel Celaya in the first period. Remigio Leal received the win after striking out nine in seven innings. He gave up two runs on five hits. Jorge Balboa had three hits, including a double. Golindano completed his dominating day at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs.

El Llano – CB Viladecans 7-0, 7-1

EL LLANO stayed undefeated scoring 14 runs against VILADECANS for their third and fourth win of the season. They now have outscored their opponents 35-8 this season. However all four victories came against bottom half clubs. Miguel Rizo pitched eight strong innings in the second game. Fidel Mane had received the victory in the first one.

The pitchers of VILADECANS didn’t get much help from their defense for the second week in a row, committing eight errors to bring the total to 16 for the year.

CB Sant Boi – San Inazio Bilbao 5-1, 2-1

SANT BOI scored four runs on five hits in the eighth period of the first game. Milko Jaramillo hit a homerun for CB. Erik Arteaga had to take the tough loss for SAN INAZIO. Albert Vargas received the win.

The second part of the match up was even more thrilling. BILBAO brought the first run on the board in the sixth, but could not hold on to the slim lead. SANT BOI tied the game in the eighth on a hit by Marc Carillo and won it through a horrible error of the pitcher-catcher-battery in the ninth, which resulted in a run by Jose Cruz.

Astros Valencia had a bye in week two.
