In the lone game in the Italian Baseball League on Thursday evening Telemarket Rimini celebrated a 3-1 victory in the series opener against T&A San Marino. The Pirates took an early 2-0 lead in the second period when Laidel Chapelli and Clinton Balgera scored on RBIs by Filippo Crociati and Lorenzo Avagnina. T&A got on the board in the top of the seventh thanks to a RBI double by David Sheldon. But Rimini extended the gap back to two runs in the bottom of the frame with a RBI single by Giuseppe Spinelli.
On the mound German National Team left-hander Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez (W 6-2) allowed just one run on four hits and two walks to pick up his sixth win of the season. He struck out five and threw 105 pitches, 64 for strikes. Gregory Palanzo (L 5-3) issued seven hits, three runs (2 ER) and a bb in 6 2/3 innings. The start of the game was delayed by an hour due to rain. Usually non-EU players will pitch in game one of a series each week, but because of San Marino’s make-up doubleheader on Tuesday against Danesi Nettuno it was switched to Saturday this time.
