In a make-up game of a May rainout in the Italian Baseball League Montepaschi Grosseto defeated the Catania Warriors 11-1 in eight innings on Wednesday evening. The Orioles took a 2-0 lead in the third on a RBI single by Gabriele Ermini and a sac fly by Lucas Bischeri. After the club from Sicily cut the deficit in a half in the top of the sixth thanks to a RBI double by Rolexis Molina, Grosseto answered with nine runs in the last three frames to blow things wide open.
Andrea Sgnaolin hit a grand slam in the seventh and scored three times overall. Andrea De Santis went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. William Horn (GRO) got the starting nod for Montepaschi, allowing just one hit and two walks in four innings, while striking out six. Yovany D’Amico (W) replaced him in the fifth and inherited the win. Franklyn Torres (L) issued eight hits, five runs and three bb in six innings. Grosseto starts a three-game series against UGF Bologna on Friday, while Catania is facing the De Angelis Godo Knights.
