Posted on April 29, 2010 by philipp

The Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association confirmed on Thursday in a press release the participation of the national team of head coach Jim Stoeckel in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup, which will be held in Taiwan from October 21st to 31st. In 2006 the Netherlands reached the championship game against Cuba, where they lost in the eleventh inning.

Besides the Dutch national team and host Taiwan, defending champion Cuba, Japan, South Korea, Nicaragua and Panama will participate in the 17th edition as well. An eighth team will follow. In advance of the tournament the Netherlands will play three exhibition games against Taiwan, Cuba and Japan from October 17th to 19th. Besides 2006 they also participated in 1983, 1995, 1999 and 2002.

The Intercontinental Cup will be the third big event for the Dutch National Team this season, as they also will play in the Haarlemse Honkbalweek and the Baseball European Championship in Stuttgart, Heidenheim and Neuenburg, Germany in July.
