The Austrian Baseball League played its first full game day of the season this weekend. On Saturday last year’s runner up Schwaz Tigers showed that they have recovered from the two losses last week, as they out-powered the promoted Stock City Cubs by a score of 20-13 and 12-0. Led by new starting pitchers Phillip Brenner and Jiri Gal, who went the distance, the Schwechat Blue Bats kicked off year with two wins over the Union Kufstein Vikings. They won by scores of 7-5 and 7-4.

The Athletics Attnang-Puchheim had to settle for a split at home against the Vienna Metrostars. Dave Burns highlighted game one for the A’s as he hit a grand slam in a 14-4 seven-inning rout. In the second match the Metrostars erased a 1-7-deficit en route to an 11-9 win. On Sunday the defending champion SUPFERUND Wanderers Vienna improved to 4-0 with a pair of victories on the road against the Rohrbach Crazy Geese.
