The Buchbinder Legionaere hosted defending champion Heidekoepfe this week in the Baseball-Bundesliga and celebrated a sweep, taking over first place in the standings as the lone remaining undefeated team in the south. On Friday evening a six-run eighth against Regensburg’s former pitcher Martin Almstetter blew a 10-3 win wide open. One day later they turned around an early 0-3 deficit to prevail 5-3.
Further in the south the Disciples took away a win from the Athletics, when Calvin Brutus pitched them to a 5-0 shutout in game two of their twin bill. In game one Mainz had won 14-3. The Atomics and the Hornets each celebrated their first victories of the season, when they settled for a split in Saarlouis. The weather showed off its ugly side on Sunday, when the doubleheader between the Gauting Indians versus the Mannheim Tornados was snowed out.
In the northern division three teams remain at the top with perfect 4-0 records. After striking out 19 last week, Bonn’s Tim Henkenjohann collected 17 Ks in game one on Sunday against the Gophers. The Capitals also celebrated after the second match, when Jon Marshall drove in Christian Nsien with a walk-off hit in the ninth. The Alligators also improved to 4-0 with two wins over the Cardinals. Game one was highlighted by a strong pitching performance and a solo homerun by Dustin Hughes.
The Untouchables are the third team with four wins at his belt, as they beat the Wanderers twice. In game one Julius Uelschen scored four times, while Paderborn handed out 15 runs on 18 hits. In the second match Dortmund nearly came back, cutting down an early 0-6 deficit to two runs in the end. Already on Saturday the promoted Wild Farmers won for the first time this season, prevailing 4-1 in game two. The first match went in favor of the Stealers, which won 9-3.
Short recaps on all games will follow on Tuesday.
