Jim Brower (W 2-0) didn’t pick up a second no-hitter in a row. But he was close. He led the Pirates to a 2-0 shutout thanks to allowing just one hit and two walks in eight innings, while striking out eight. A double with one out in the eighth by Mattia Bucchi ended the no-no bid. After the nine no-hit innings against Grosseto last Friday, Brower started his Italian career with 16 1/3 no-hit innings.
Mario Chiarini had put Rimini in front in the opening period on Thursday, smacking a pitch over the fence in left field. Giuseppe Spinelli added an insurance run in the ninth on a wild pitch. Keith Ramsey (L 0-1) got the start for the Knights and issued three hits, a run and four walks in five innings. He struck out seven.

San Marino handed Bologna its first loss of the season, as the vice champion of last year celebrated a 5-0 shutout on Thursday. Vincente Bonilla (W 2-0) gave up just two hits and three walks in 7 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out seven. Ardley Jansen drove in two, while Carlos Duran and Simone Albanese scored two runs each. Jesus Matos (L 1-1) allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings.
Montepaschi Grosseto – Danesi Nettuno 3-0

Juan Figueroa (W 1-1) struck out eleven batters in eight scoreless innings to lead Grosseto to a 3-0 win over Nettuno. He conceded just five hits and two walks. A sac fly by Kelly Ramos in the fifth put Montepaschi ahead. One frame later Alessandro Vaglio drove in Leonardo Mazzanti with a single and scored on a balk to make it 3-0. Kris Wilson (L 1-1) gave up eight hits, a run and a walk in just five innings to take the loss.
