Sant Boi trying to defend perfect record in Navarra

Posted on April 2, 2010 by philipp

CB Sant Boi defends 10-0 record in NavarraAfter facing the FC Barcelona successfully last weekend at home the demanding weeks for CB Sant Boi continue on Easter on the road against third-ranked Baseball Navarra. And it won’t end there. Next up will be dates with defending champion Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz and the improved Astros Valencia before concluding the first half of the regular season against Halcones de Vigo.

Nonetheless sporting a perfect 10-0 record in the Division de Honor Sant Boi is currently in the pole position to win the Spanish championship. They already have a three-game lead in the standings and dominate the league with their impressive pitching staff, with Junior Guerra, Jose Guanchez, Jose Estebin Cruz and Hector Peraza alternating as starting pitchers each week. Additionally the offense is firing on all cylinders led by Jose Luis Riera, Marc Carrillo and Daniel Sanchez, who each is batting well over .400.

But Navarra has no reason to hide either. After losing three of the first four games of the season, they are riding a six-game winning streak, including a sweep over the Tenerife Marlins two weeks ago. Seven days ago they prevailed against the Astros and solidified third place in the standings. Victor Martinez is not only third in the league with a .472 batting average, but he also has picked up a win and two saves in four appearances out of the bullpen. Fellow reliever Hector Perozo (20 SO in 13 scoreless innings) already had four homeruns on his belt this year.

You can follow the matchup between Navarra and Sant Boi on Saturday via live play by play on the federation website. Already today on Friday San Inazio Bilbao hosts Halcones de Vigo for a doubleheader. CB Viladecans is facing El Llano and the Marlins take on the Astros on Saturday.
