Whitney Pierce playing in Switzerland

Whitney Robinson-Pierce is adding another mark on his career map of Baseball stops around the world. After six professional seasons in the United States, including stints with minor league affiliates with the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago Cubs, and several clubs in Europe and Australia the 28-year-old catcher joins the Austrian Baseball League team Schwaz Tigers for the upcoming season.

Pierce played for the Swiss NLA team Reussbuehl Eagles in 2007, for the Dutch Hoofdklasse club RCH Media Monks in 2008 and for the German Baseball-Bundesliga team Saarlouis Hornets in 2009. He will serve as player-coach for the reigning Austrian vice champion, which also will play in the European Cup Qualifier in Antwerp, Belgium this June.

Before spending his third consecutive winter in Australia the Californian Pierce batted .278 (OBP .457/SLG .392) with two homeruns, 17 runs and six RBI for the Hornets in 2009. Schwaz recently lost starting pitcher Peter Astl for the year due to a shoulder injury. They will open the new season on April 17th with a rematch of last fall’s finals on the road against champion SUPERFUND Wanderers Vienna.
