Baseball Navarra – Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz 12-2 (8), 10-9

Baseball Navarra accomplished quite a feat against the reigning Spanish champion on Saturday. They upset the Tenerife Marlins with two wins. In game one they scored six runs in the first two innings on their way to an easy 12-2 victory, which even ended early after eight innings due to ten-run rule. Larry Infante and Hector Perozo led the offense with two homeruns and seven runs overall. Luis Villanueva went 3-for-4.
Juan Jose Lopez (W 3-1) struck out seven batters in 7 1/3 impressive innings, holding Richard Montiel and Luis Landaeta to a combined 1-for-7. The southpaw allowed two runs on six hits and five walks. He also added two RBI at the plate. On the other side, Leslie Nacar (L 2-2) surrendered nine hits, eight runs (7 ER) and four bb in 5 2/3 innings.
Game 2:

While a loss by the Marlins already was a rarity the last couple of years that they even blew a big lead is even more seldom. In the second match Puerto Cruz started furious, scoring eight runs in the opening frame, highlighted by an Israel Osorio grand slam. But they saw their lead shrinking pretty fast, as Navarra turned around the score over the course of three innings.
An insurance run in the seventh made it 10-8. Tenerife tried to come back in the ninth with Richard Montiel opening with a solo homerun to cut the deficit to a run. Two more runners reached with no outs, before closer Victor Martinez recovered and sealed the 10-9 win and the sweep. The Marlins now have lost four straight games.
Hector Perozo homered, scored twice and drove in two. Luis Villanueva and Inaki Alfonso also crossed the plate two times. Andres Casado (W 2-1) picked up the win in relief of starter Gerardo Cia, who only managed one out. Casado issued five hits, a run and three bb in 5 2/3 innings. Ivan Granados (L 2-2) struck out eleven in eight innings, but also was charged for eight hits, ten runs (6 ER) and six walks.
CB Viladecans – CB Sant Boi 0-10 (8), 4-9

CB Sant Boi also stayed undefeated after eight games in the 2010 season in the Division de Honor. Playing against local rivals CB Viladecans, Jose Guanchez (W 2-0) and Junior Guerra combined to face just one batter over the minimum in an eight-inning 10-0 shutout. Guanchez started and gave up just one walk over six frames, striking out seven. Guerra set down the last six batters in order, four of them through punch-outs.
The offense, which had provided an early 2-0 lead in the second on a two-run double by Juan Manuel Salazar, blew things wide open with a six-run rally in the sixth. Jose Luis Riera set the highlight by rounding the diamond on a flyball to right field, driving in Daniel Martinez and Rafael Rivas with the triple, while scoring himself on an error by the second baseman.
Fabian Marquez (L 0-4) also dropped his fourth start this year, allowing five hits, three runs and a whopping seven walks in five innings.
Game 2:

In the second match Sant Boi scored four runs in the first three innings and five more in the last three for a 9-4 victory. Daniel Martinez (3-3, 2 bb) reached in all of his five plate appearances, scoring three times and drive two. Jose Luis Riera also picked up two RBI. Camilo Gonzalez had a two-run double for Viladecans.
Pedro Luis Peraza (W 2-0) got the start, giving up three hits, two runs and six bb in 5 2/3 innings. Pol Llopis (L 1-2) was responsible for eleven hits, seven runs (6 ER) and three walks in 6 1/3 innings.
FC Barcelona – Astros Valencia 11-1 (8), 11-1 (8)

Just one week after holding the Tenerife Marlins offense in check, Barcelona’s Jason Friedman (W 3-0) and Delio Miguel Martinez combined to throw an eight-inning no-hitter against the Astros Valencia in game one of the doubleheader on Sunday, an 11-1 victory. Friedman started and allowed just one run on five walks and a hit by pitch in five wild innings, striking out five. Martinez replaced him and closed it out with three perfect frames.
Despite the lopsided final score Valencia stayed close for big parts of the game thanks to another strong performance by John Scott Dunn (L 3-1). Barcelona started with a RBI groundout by Oscar Angulo in the opening period. But the Astros came back in the fourth, tying the game on a sac fly by Eric Frank Cowes. However “Barca” regained the lead in the bottom of the frame, when Miguel Mora (3 RBI) drove in Jesus Golindano with a fielder’s choice groundball to second base and later scored on a triple by Albert Diaz.
Dunn left the match after Angulo (3-5, 2 3B, 2B, 4 RBI) led off the eighth with a triple. Barcelona used this opportunity to blew things wide open, scoring eight runs against reliever John Taylor Lee, sealing the win due to ten-run rule. Dunn’s final line was seven-plus innings pitched, eight hits, four runs and five strikeouts.
Game 2:

The FC Barcelona completed the sweep over the Astros in part two of the twin bill with another 11-1 win. It was an easy victory, as they were able to build up the score from the beginning. Oscar Angulo scored three times, while Orlando Diaz drove in three. Five batters collected two hits apiece.
On the mound Pedro Belmonte (W 3-0) issued just one run on six hits and a walk in eight innings. He struck out six. Jordi Valles (L 1-2) got the start against his former teammates and surrendered eight hits, seven runs (5 ER) and three bb in four innings. Jorge Gomez pitched the reminder of the game.
San Inazio Bilbao – CD Pamplona 4-1, 10-1

San Inazio Bilbao had a tough schedule at the start of the 2010 season, traveling to Tenerife and to Sant Boi besides hosting the improved Astros at home. They improved to 3-5 this weekend, sweeping a doubleheader against Pamplona.
In game one Bilbao broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI single by Luis Hernandez. They added two more for a 4-1 win one frame later thanks to a RBI double by Ruben Cabrera and a sac fly by Carlos Vicario.
Fidel Torres Mane (W 1-3) issued just one unearned run on five hits through nine strong innings. He struck out five. Marcos Castillo (L 1-3) allowed nine hits, four runs (3 ER) and four bb in eight innings. He collected seven Ks.
Game 2:

Luis Hernandez batted leadoff in the second game and lifted Bilbao to a 10-1 win from there. He went 2-for-5 with a walk and three runs scored. Edward Adames drove in two. Tony Granadillo and Kelvim Marianucci had three hits apiece. Alberto Magallon (W 2-2) cruised to an easy win, giving up just one run on six hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings. Juan Redin (L 2-1) surrendered eight hits, seven runs (6 ER) and eight bb in 5 1/3 innings.
El Llano – Halcones de Vigo 0-5 (5)

Rafael Gomera (W 2-1) allowed just two hits and a walk in five scoreless innings to lead Vigo to a 5-0 shutout in Gijon. The game got called due to rain after the fifth. Gomera struck out eight. Juan Castro went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Jose Morales, who tripled and doubled, drove in two. Nuevo de la Cruz (L 0-3) gave up five runs on ten hits in five innings to take the loss.
Due to the bad weather game two of the doubleheader was postponed.
