Jurrjens playing Catch. Minors to test for HGH.

Posted on February 24, 2010February 24, 2010 by philipp

Jair Jurrjens: The 24-year-old starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens still has some minor discomfort in his right shoulder, but felt encouraged after a throwing session on Tuesday. It was the second time he played catch since undergoing a MRI last week, which had shown no structural damage, only some inflammation. He hopes to throw off a mound next week. It is still too early to tell, if he is going to be ready by opening day.

Anti-Doping: On Monday a British Rugby player was suspended after testing positive for human growth hormone (HGH). Now the New York Times reports that Major League Baseball will implement blood tests that can reveal HGH, starting in the Minor Leagues this season. The next step would be to bring HGH testing into the big leagues, though they need the approval of the player’s union MLBPA to do it. At the beginning of Spring Training Major League Baseball had issued a memo to the players, which says that they have added 12 new performance-enhancing drugs and 30 new stimulants to the banned list.
