The Italian Winter League has its first winner. Junior Grosseto beat ASD Antella 3-1 in the finals to win the 2010 edition of the Winter League Tuscany in Florence. With the triumph they also qualified for the national finals of the youth indoor league, which will be held in Bologna next month. Sailors Livorno and the Seagulls Massa came in at third and fourth. Tommaso Capizzi (Grosseto) was named MVP. Jean Mark Castillo (Antella) took home best pitcher honors, while Edoardo Foust (Firenze) received the best batter trophy.
Meanwhile the last preliminary round game days were played in Bologna and Verona. At the Winter League Emilia Romagna three teams finished with the same 4-1 record in group B, Pianorese, Junior Parma and Fortitudo Bologna with the latter missing the semi-finals due to the tiebreaker. In the other group the Athletics Bologna sit comfortably in first place with San Marino and Longbridge Bologna battling for second place in a make-up game of the postponed event on January 31st. The finals will be played on February 28th.
At the Winter League Veneto the champion also will be crowned on the last day of the month. However the format is a little bit different since the four qualified teams are going to play a round robin. San Martino and Senago United finished in the top two positions in group two last Sunday, joining Bolzano BC and Crazy Sanbonifacese in the final round.
