Former Minor Leaguer Gustavo Martinez from Rimini to Parma

Gustavo MartinezRight-handed pitcher Gustavo Martinez is leaving Telemarket Rimini to join Parma in the upcoming season in the Italian Baseball League according to Baseball.it. The 34-year-old Dominican pitched in the Seattle Mariners organization between 2000 and 2004, including 20 games (19 starts) in AAA. He later moved on to play in Mexico and in the independent Atlantic League before coming to Europe for the 2008 season.

The past two seasons Martinez took the mound for the Pirates, recording an overall record of 6-7 with an ERA of 1.61 in 31 games. In 117 1/3 innings he struck out 143 batters, while walking 43. He also allowed just 76 hits for a WHIP of 1.01. After starting in six games in 2008, he solely was used as a reliever by manager Mauro Mazzotti last year.
