2010 Canada Cup cancelled

Posted on February 1, 2010 by philipp

The 2010 edition of the Women’s Softball International tournament Canada Cup got cancelled at the end of last week. The event in Surrey, British Columbia, which would have been held for the 17th time, was scheduled for the period between July 3rd and 11th.

‘It is with great regret and after much deliberation due to the changes made by the International Softball Federation schedule that I have decided not to proceed with the 2010 Canada Cup and have informed Softball Canada and the Canada Cup Host Committee of this decision,’ stated Chairman, Glen Todd.

The timeframe for the Women’s World Championship in Caracas, Venezuela was changed to June 23rd to July 2nd after originally slated to begin after the Canada Cup, so the international teams could have used the tournament as warm-up.

The Netherlands were the lone European team in the 2010 Canada Cup, defeating Venezuela twice in the preliminary round (2-6 record) before getting eliminated at the start of the second round.
