The technical commission of the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) announced the groups for the European Cup Qualifiers on Thursday. After the federations in Europe had the opportunity to submit teams for the Qualifiers until December 31st, Sweden and Austria each received an additional second spot. While Austria’s runner up in the 2009 championship, Schwaz Tigers, already was confirmed, there wasn’t yet an announcement if the second-ranked team in Sweden, Tranås, will make the trip south. The Qualifiers will be played from June 14 to June 19 in Solingen, Brest, Karlovac and Antwerp. The winner of each event will have the chance to play for a 2011 European Cup spot in a playoff tournament later this year.
Update 01/18/10: Tranås has declined the invitation and will not participate in the European Cup Qualifier in Brest. Karlskoga, Sundbyberg and Leksand have been asked, but a decision hasn’t been made yet. We’ll keep you updated.
