Danesi Nettuno Add Outfielder Selwyn Langaigne

Danesi Nettuno signed the Venezuelan outfielder Selwyn LANGAIGNE and confirmed several key players for the upcoming season.

LANGAIGNE is 31 years old and was born in Caracas, Venezuela. The left-handed batter is currently playing for the Tigres de Aragua (Venezuela) in the Caribbean Series. He is hitting .389 in four games. He hit .280 (OBP .322/ SLG .458) in 59 games in the Venezuelan Winter League this season. He began his pro career in the Dominican Summer League in 1994 (.296) and 1995 (.335).  At the age of 20 he had signed a contract with the Toronto Blue Jays organization. Between 1996 and 2002 he played for several of their minor league teams as high as Triple A. Besides a short stint with the Double A team of the Minnesota Twins in 2005 he played for independent league clubs from 2003 on. Nettuno also confirmed that Juan CAMILLO, Giovanni CARRARA, Fraylin FLORIAN and Vince PARSI would be back in 2008.

CARRARA, who is a former reliever of the Los Angeles Dodgers, started on Monday for his Venezuelan team (Tigres de Aragua) in the Caribbean Series. He threw five shutout innings against the Mexican affiliate Yaquis de Obregon. The 39-year-old allowed just four hits, striking out four. It was their only victory in the series so far. In twelve starts in Venezuela this winter he posted a 5-1 record with an ERA of 2.30. He struck out 37 in 58.2 innings pitched.

It was also reported that second baseman Rusty MC NAMARA is leaving Danesi. Shortstop Igor SCHIAVETTI will miss the first four games of the season due to an injury. General manager Alberto DE CAROLIS searches another foreign-born pitcher and an infielder to strengthen the roster. Nettuno finished in second place in 2007 after losing the Italian Series against Montepaschi Grosseto in seven games.
