Transactions in French Baseball League

Posted on January 23, 2008January 29, 2008 by philipp

There are not many transactions known in French Baseball at the moment. The people, who are responsible for the great website of the Rouen Huskies summed up a few changes in France.

Templiers Sénart: The runner up in the 2007 championship signed two former infielders of Montpellier. Second baseman Lahcéne BENHAMIDA and shortstop Sébastian HERVE will join the team. Both were with La Grande Motte last year, a third division club. HERVE also was on a college in Arizona and is a member of the French national team. He hit .375 (OBP .450, SLG .625) with three runs scored and five RBI in five games at the European championship in Barcelona.

Savigny Lions: They finished in second place after the regular season. They will miss center fielder Christophe GONIOT, who will go to Thiais (second division in France). He hit .351 (OBP .418, SLG .457) with 22 runs scored and 13 RBI in 22 games. The 26-year-old Nicolas LAUNAY led the second division team Cougars de Montigny with a .373 batting average (OBP .612, SLG .600), 36 runs scored and 26 RBI.

Montpellier Barracudas: They reached the semi-finals last year. They are interested in the Canadian Mike GRIFFIN, who received the MVP award in the Czech baseball league. The 22-year-old hit .333 (OBP .378, SLG .544) with four homeruns, 25 runs scored and 32 RBI for the Arrows Ostrava. Lefthander Patrice BRIONES, who already had pitched in Spain in the past, leaves the team for CD Pamplona. He played for Pessac in 2007.

Clermont-Ferrand: The champion of the second division in France and new member of the French baseball league signed two Canadian players of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Doug GRANT is a right-handed pitcher. Third baseman Brett MURPHY is currently playing for the Brisbane Padres in Australia.

For Templiers: HERVE played in the third french division (Ligue PACA) on the club of LA Grande Motte.

For the Barracudas: BRIONES played with Pessac in 2007, not with Montpellier.

    Otherwise, all is true.
