The Zurich Challengers are happy to announce that they have signed Swiss National Team pitcher Ryan Byrne. The 24-year old Houston native played the last two years with the Bern Cardinals winning the Swiss championship twice. The left-hander will join the Challengers in the next days and will make his debut on Opening Day, where the C’s will face the Zurich Barracudas on April 6.
Byrne was 8-1 with a 2.35 ERA in 14 games last season for the Cardinals and batted .366 with 34 hits, 8 doubles, 3 triples, 20 RBI’s and scored 32 runs. He will replace Andrea Girasole, who will play with the Luzern Eagles in 2014, reinforcing the Challengers rotation with Tobias Siegrist and Robert Sedin for the National championship and for the 2014 European Cup.
