The New York Mets have released 22-year-old Dutch infielder Kevin Weijgertse. The former player of Konica Minolta Pioniers and Corendon Kinheim in the Dutch Hoofdklasse, had signed with the Mets organization in 2009. He played three seasons professionally in the Dominican Summer League and the Appalachian League. He batted .183/.323/.196 with five doubles, 45 runs and 27 RBI in 155 games in affiliated minor league ball. The first baseman will return to the Netherlands and will join L&D Amsterdam in the Hoofdklasse. He already has been a member of the Pirates since after the 2011 season. At Amsterdam he will be reunited with Björn Hato, who had signed with the Mets in 2009 as well, but already got released in 2011.
