Cuba lost for the first time in the 2009 World Port Tournament in Rotterdam on Saturday, but still will play the final on Sunday after having won seven of the first eight games (one tie). Japan’s Syogo Suenaga led Japan to a 2-1 victory, allowing just one unearned run on four hits and a walk in a complete game win. He struck out four and also hit two batters. They had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a RBI groundout by Kyohei Kondoh and doubled the score in the fifth on a sac fly by Yuta Siozawa. Cuba scored on an error in the bottom of the frame, but failed to tie the contest afterwards. Noelvis Entenza took the loss after seven innings, six hits, two runs (1 ER) and three bb in seven innings. He struck out seven.
Taiwan – Netherlands 5-6

The Netherlands needed a four-run rally in the seventh on Saturday in Rotterdam to defeat Taiwan 6-5 and to take second place in the standings after the preliminary round. They will face Cuba in the finals on Sunday afternoon. The Dutch team trailed 2-4 after the sixth. Raily Legito homered and scored two runs overall. Martijn Meeuwis went two-for-four with a double and two RBI. His RBI single plated the decisive sixth run. Kuo-Min Lin had three hits for Taiwan, which scored in each frame between the fourth and the seventh. But it was not enough. Ken-Wei Lin crossed the plate twice. Rob Cordemans picked up the win, allowing nine hits, four runs (3 ER) and two bb in six innings. Chih-Lung Huang started for the Asian team, giving up two hits, a run and six walks in five innings. His replacement on the mound, Wen-Yang Liao, took the loss.
