After four winless games to start the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam, the Dutch national team ended its drought with an 8-0 shutout against Japan on Monday evening thanks to a brilliant performance by starting pitcher Rob Cordemans and an outburst by the offense. The member of the Hoofdklasse club SPARTA/FEYENOORD held the Asian team to one hit and a walk in seven scoreless innings. A one-out single by Kyohei Kondoh with one out in the seventh broke up the no-hit bid. He struck out six. Jim Ploeger and Robin van Doornspeek completed the shutout with scoreless frames. Bryan Engelhardt led the attack, going four-for-four with a double, three runs scored and three RBI. Bas de Jong doubled twice and drove in two. Gen Horie took the loss, giving up two hits, two runs and a walk in one inning.
