Netherlands – Chinese Taipei 7-2
The Dutch national team followed Cuba’s 3-0 opening win over Curacao on Sunday with a 7-2 victory over Chinese Taipei. 2,576 people at Familie Stadium saw the Netherlands have a successful start into the 2013 World Port Tournament in Rotterdam. Chinese Taipei had the better start against Dutch starter Diegomar Markwell, taking a 2-0 lead in the third. But the Netherlands countered with three runs in the fourth to get up in front. Bryan Engelhardt had the big hit driving in Dwayne Kemp and Gianision Boekhoudt. They added four insurance runs between the sixth and eighth to seal the win. Engelhardt finished with three hits and four RBI. Danny Rombley and Stijn van der Meer collected two hits apiece. Chris Mowday and Bayron Cornelissen closed it out for Markwell, who got the win after seven solid innings.
