World Port Tournament: Recap Day 8, June 30

Curacao – Germany 2-12 (8)

Germany 104 041 11 12 10 2
Curacao 200 000 00 2 5 3

Germany has captured its first win at the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam. They defeated Curacao on Thursday afternoon due to ten-run rule 12-2 in eight innings. Four-run rallies in the third and in the fifth decided the outcome early. Curacao only threatened in the opening frame, when Germany’s head coach Greg Frady had to pull his starting pitcher Daniel Hinz after just five batters. Dominik Hartinger (W) came in and completely shut down the opposing offense, allowing just three hits and four walks in 7 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Sascha Lutz (3-5) crossed the plate three times. Jendrick Speer had three hits and three RBI. Dustin Hughes scored twice and drove in two. Ruderly Manuel (L) issued three hits, five runs (4 ER) and three bb in 2 2/3 innings.

Taiwan – Cuba 4-1

Cuba 001 000 000 1 6 0
Taiwan 000 000 40X 4 14 0

Taiwan handed Cuba its third loss in the World Port Tournament, using a four-run rally in the seventh to down the record title holder 4-1 on Thursday evening. Cuba had taken a 1-0 lead in the third on back-to-back hits by Rusney Castillo and Yoilan Cerce. However they weren’t able to add any insurance and Taiwan took advantage of it. A RBI single by Kuan Wei Yang tied the game to ignite the big inning. A RBI fielder’s choice by Chih Pei Huang gave them the lead. Two more runs scored on a single by Tsung Han Yu. Yu Hsun Chen (W) issued six hits and a run in eight strong innings. Yosvani Torres (L) allowed eleven hits, four runs and a walk in 6 1/3 innings.

Schedule Day 9:
Friday, July 1:

  • 14:00 Taiwan – Germany
  • 19:00 Cuba – Netherlands
