So far the World Port Tournament 2011 in Rotterdam isn’t a successful tournament for Cuba. In a make-up game of Saturday’s rainout the record world champion lost 1-3 to Taiwan on Monday morning. It was already the second loss for Cuba in the event. The Asian team scored runs in the seventh and ninth to improve to 3-0 in the WPT. Kuan Ju Chen (W) was the star of the game, allowing just two hits, a run and a walk in nine innings. Han Lin went 3-for-4 with the go-ahead RBI single. Yosvani Torres (L) gave up eight hits, two runs and three bb in 6 2/3 frames.
Cuba – Germany 4-3 (10)

Cuba nearly suffered its second loss of the day, as Germany gave them a run for the money. The team of head coach Greg Frady led 2-0 after six innings and 3-1 midway through the eighth, but couldn’t seal the deal. Cuba tied the contest with two outs in the ninth inning on a RBI single by Yoilan Cerce. In the tenth Yoelvis Fiss scored the game winner on a two-out error by shortstop Nils Hartkopf. Bjoern Schonlau drove in two of the three German runs. Simon Guehring scored twice. Yasel Puig homered and drove in two for Cuba. Duniel Ibarra (W) received the win, Moritz Sckaer (L) the loss. Eugen Heilmann (GER) had issued eight hits, two runs and a walk in seven-plus innings. Misael Siverio (CUB) allowed three hits, two runs and three bb in 5 2/3 innings.
Curacao – Taiwan 1-7

Taiwan has moved into the role of the tournament favorite after the first half of the preliminary round at the WPT in Rotterdam. On Monday evening they won their fourth in as many games, defeating Curacao 7-1. The Caribbean had taken a 1-0 lead in the fifth on a RBI double by Andley Simmons. But the Asian team came back to tie the game in the seventh on a RBI single by Wei Chih Chen and won it with three-run rallies in the eighth and the ninth. Han Lin and Chih Pei Huang went 3-for-5 with a RBI each. Chun Lin Kuo (TPE) conceded eight hits, a run and a walk in six innings. Jonathan Balentina (CUR) allowed one run on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings, striking out seven. Chen Hua Lin (W) picked up the win, Caroll Servania (L) took the loss. Both teams will meet again on Tuesday afternoon.
