The 2015 World Port Tournament in Rotterdam continued with the third day of the preliminary round on Monday. Once again two games were on the schedule at 1.30pm and 7.30pm. Curacao got its first win of the event, while Cuba posted up memorable numbers in the second match.
Chinese Taipei – Curacao 0-4
Curacao picked up its first win in three games with a 4-0 shutout over Chinese Taipei on Monday afternoon. Three runs in the third provided an early cushion. Marvin Brown and three relievers allowed the squad from Taiwan to eight hits and eight walks, but no runs. Chinese Taipei left runners on base in each frame. Yi Chih Huang got charged with the loss, surrendering seven hits, four runs (3 ER) and two walks in five innings.
Japan – Cuba 5-13 (10)
The evening game featured a memorable and perhaps historic extra inning. Cuba scored nine runs in the top of the tenth to down Japan 13-5. Both teams had scored four times during the first nine innings with Japan tying the game in the seventh. With the Extra Inning Tiebreaker Rule in effect, Cuba erupted on offense in the tenth. Osvaldo Vazques, who already had homered earlier in the game, hit a three-run shot to highlight the rally. He finished with five RBI. Jose Angel Garcia earned the win. Ryusei Sakamoto got charged with the loss.
