It has been an eventful SportAccord Convention in Sochi, Russia so far. On Sunday it started with an interesting development for Baseball and Softball, when WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari got elected as second council member of ARISF on the executive board of SportAccord.
“It’s a tremendous honour being appointed by my distinguished colleagues, and it’s an even greater responsibility,” said Fraccari.
SportAccord is a union of international sports federations — both Olympic and non-Olympic. The umbrella organisation also has organisers of international sport events among its membership.
Fraccari, who has served as Secretary General of ARISF since 2013, will join the eight-member SportAccord Council as the second ARISF delegate.
The World Baseball Softball Confederation is a member of both, ARISF and SportAccord. ARISF is the Association of International IOC-Recognised Sport Federations.
Meanwhile SportAccord President Marius Vizer attacked the IOC and President Thomas Bach heavily in an opening speech. As consequence various International Sports Federations signed a letter that they are not agreeing with Vizer’s remarks. The IAAF, the ISSF and World Archery even took it a step further and resigned from SportAccord.
