Van den Hurk, Jurrjens hit hard. Ponson signs with Ducks.

Rick van den Hurk: The 24-year-old right-hander Rick van den Hurk started for the Florida Marlins on Tuesday in a Grapefruit League game against the Washington Nationals. After holding the Nats scoreless for the first three innings, he got hit hard in the fourth. Kevin Mench and Cristian Guzman went deep in this frame, combining to put five runs on the board with the two swings. Van den Hurk left after 3 2/3 innings, allowing a total of nine runs, six runs and two walks. He struck out just one batter. He also was charged with a throwing error.

Jair Jurrjens: 24-year-old Atlanta Braves right-hander Jair Jurrjens started against a different Marlins team. In his second appearance in the 2010 spring training he allowed three runs on five hits in three innings. All damage was done in the opening period and he was perfect afterwards. He struck out two and still picked up the win.

Roger Bernadina: 25-year-old outfielder Roger Bernadina didn’t play against Van den Hurk. He batted leadoff for the second squad of the Nationals versus the St. Louis Cardinals, going 1-for-4 with a walk, playing both outfield corners.

Sidney Ponson: The independent league club Long Island Ducks announced on Tuesday that they have signed Aruba native Sidney Ponson. The 33-year-old, who pitched for the Dutch team during the 2009 World Baseball Classic, will enter his first season in the Atlantic League. He was signed by the Baltimore Orioles as an undrafted free agent in 1993 and has made 298 career appearances in Major League Baseball. In 2009 Ponson played for the Kansas City Royals.
