USA defeates Spain in seven innings

Team USA defeated Spain by a score of 12-2. They are now 4-1 and alone at the top in the standings in pool A.

The Americans scored five runs in the first three innings to build up an early 5-1 lead. They added seven more in the seventh frame to raise the advantage. The Spanish rallied for another point in the same period, but could not prevent the game to end to due ten-run-rule.

The squad of the United States crushed six homeruns in the contest. LA Dodgers prospect Andy LAROCHE contunied his hot hitting with two longballs. He drove in four. Bryan ANDERSON had four hits in four at-bats, including a two-run-homerun, scored twice and got two RBI. Steve PEARCE, Evan LONGORIA (2 RBI) and Colby RASMUS (three-run-inside-the-parker) also went deep.

Ricardo RODRIGUEZ batted both Spanish runs in.

Dallas TAHERN (W 1-0) pitched four innings to start the game. He allowed six hits, one unearned run and one walk.

Miguel RIZO (L 0-1) was charged with seven hits, five runs and two base on balls in three innings. Jorge BALBOA, Rhiner CRUZ and Edgar AINETO followed him on the mound.
