USA crushes Lithuania, cruises at WUBC
Team USA also won their third game at the World University Baseball Championship in the Czech Republic. They crushed Lithuania 30-1 on Sunday, setting team records for runs, homeruns and RBI. Micah Gibbs, Hunter Morris and Scott Woodward each hit two homeruns. Gibbs, Woodward, Mike Leake and Blake Smith drove in a combined 18 runs. Brett Hunter started and struck out nine in five one-hit, one-walk innings. Edgaras Matusevicius scored the lone Lithuanian run. Starter Sigitas Juskenas was replaced midway through the ten-run third.
In the second game on Sunday, Japan defeated Canada 7-6 in eleven innings, when Takuya Tsukuura scored the game winner on a sacrifice fly by Takeshi Hosoyamada. They had tied the match in the bottom of the ninth through a RBI double by Tsukuura and a RBI single by Kyohei Iwasaki to force extra innings. Ken Fuglerud hit a three-run triple for Canada and reached home on an error in the fifth.
