The U12 Baseball World Cup in Tainan, Taiwan is history. On Sunday Team USA defended its title with a 7-2 victory over Chinese Taipei, which had beaten the Americans 16-2 in pool play earlier in the tournament. Mexico claimed the bronze medal with a 1-0 shutout over Japan.
The two European participants didn’t reach the Super Round Robin, but had to play the consolation round. The Czech Republic won three games in the tournament and finished in eighth place, collecting crucial points in their quest to reach the elusive top 12 in the men’s baseball world ranking. Germany won only one game in the tournament – against the Czech Republic – and finished in 12th place in the final standings.
The U12 Baseball World Cup, which is the only World Championship in that age category in all of sports, was held for the fourth time. Chinese Taipei won the first edition in 2011, the United States the next three.
