The Minnesota Twins are sending right-handed reliever Loek van Mil to the Los Angeles Angels to complete their trade for Brian Fuentes. Van Mil already was designated for assignment by the Twins, when they acquired Fuentes last weekend. They had ten days to trade, release or send him to the minors via outright waivers. The Twins had protected him for the Rule-5-Draft last fall and put him on the 40-man roster, which earned him also an invitation to the Major League spring training camp.
Van Mil is 25 years old and from Oss, Netherlands and is playing in his fifth professional season. One of the tallest players in the game with a height of 7’11’’ he has a career Minor League ERA of 3.59 in 110 games as high as Double-A. However, he is struggling in 2010 going a combined 1-3 with an ERA of 6.15 between Fort Myers (High-A) and New Britain (Double-A). His biggest problems are his high walk totals. During his career he has walked 104 batters in just 188 innings, while striking out 144. This year he has 22 walks and 27 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings.
